Iberdrola Italia

Drawing on its extensive global experience, Iberdrola aims to play a leading role in Italy as well, supporting both the ecological transition and energy security. In Italy, Iberdrola produces renewable energy through three solar power plants. Following the inauguration of the first photovoltaic park in Montalto di Castro in 2022, two additional plants entered into operation in 2024, located in Montefiascone and Tarquinia, both in the province of Viterbo.

The company’s strategy includes a pipeline of approximately 145 projects under continuous development, with a total potential of 6.8 GW. This roadmap will allow Iberdrola to reach an installed capacity of 700 MW by 2028, supporting solid and steady organic growth through 2035. In doing so, the company will continue contributing to Italy’s ambitious energy targets and supporting the competitiveness of industrial customers by accompanying them on their decarbonization journey.

PPAs and industrial competitiveness

Renewable energy production generates a virtuous cycle that primarily benefits businesses. Through the signing of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)—long-term contracts that enable the supply of green energy at a fixed price—companies can plan their financial and operational strategies with greater certainty.

Cost stability is a crucial factor for ensuring competitiveness, as it helps avoid fluctuations in energy market prices, which are often influenced by geopolitical and economic factors. Moreover, adopting renewable energy represents a concrete commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. By enhancing industrial competitiveness, Iberdrola contributes to reducing dependence on imported energy and supports market electrification, even in areas without local energy production.

In 2025, the Iberdrola Group achieved first place in the Pexapark Renewables Market Outlook 2026 ranking of Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) sellers. With 1,088 MW contracted through 13 agreements, Iberdrola reached nearly double the volume of the second-ranked operator, consolidating its leadership in the PPA market for the third consecutive year.

Also in 2025, Iberdrola Italia signed—among several other agreements—a PPA with the Selex Group for the supply of 1,250 GWh of photovoltaic renewable energy. The agreement will avoid approximately 37,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year, equivalent to planting 1.5 million trees, making a significant contribution to the decarbonization of the Italian retail sector.

Positive impact on local communities

Iberdrola demonstrates that the supply of clean energy can and must go hand in hand with social well-being and environmental protection. Through the Pianeta Iberdrola program, the company promotes initiatives that integrate its business activities with biodiversity, nature, and local communities, contributing to the development of a resilient and climate‑neutral economic model. The company’s integrated approach, based on the synergy between sustainable energy development and the enhancement of local areas, stands as a benchmark for the sector.

Pianeta Iberdrola is not only an environmental initiative but also a driver of social and economic growth, engaging institutions, businesses, and citizens in a shared commitment to a greener and more inclusive future. Investing in knowledge, training, and innovation is essential to ensuring long-lasting and widespread benefits for all.

Community engagement and transparent dialogue are fundamental to ensuring a fair energy transition—one in which economic growth and environmental sustainability advance together.
